Happy Holidays to all! I had a super Christmas. In the way of gifts I received Deadwood seasons 1 and 2, a Dremel tool kit, and art book from the MoMA in NY called An Atlas of Drawings, a book on advertising from the 70s, a picture book called Food Play, lots of cheesy stocking stuffers (cashews, pistachios, beef jerky, Goldfish, spices, Airborne formula (pink grapefruit flavor), jerk seasoning, chutney), a Gram Parsons CD boxed set, 6 pair of white socks and 2 pair of men's boot socks, and some gift certifs to Home Depot, Bed Bath Beyond, and Old Navy. I'll also be getting a tatoo on my body as a gift from my middle bother Dusty (he's getting one from me too whenever we decide to go to a reliable tatoo place in town).

The number one super gift was a real working deli cooler, which can be seen pictured below. Inside you'll see the product of some crock work I did today. I crocked up my test batch of turkey BBQ. Super great success. It tastes amazing, prolly a 7.99 rating for this one.

And for the record here's a picture and description of meal 12.0 >>

Test Batch BBQ served on a Dixie brand paper plate with leftover Christmas day sweet potato souffle and stuffing and a roll. Test Batch BBQ was prepared with the reserved test batch Ziploc pouch of turkey meat as well as 2 bits of dark meat, 5 slices of packaged turkey bacon (diced), sauteed onions and garlic, Albino Skunk 2004 Secretion BBQ sauce, some apple cider vinegar, butter, a squirt of lemon, several splashes of worcestershire, and finally salt and pepper.

It's now on to the frozen reserves. Look forward to a turkey lasagna, a stuffed turkey breast, and maybe if I get my stuff together some homemade turkey sausages.

10:13 AM >> HAPC and Update D.1

TaKING a break from the turkey for a couple of days. YEsterday I created two things. 1) Lamb and Beans, which is a new take on an old classic of my Mom's Ham and Beans recipe. 2) A Honey Apple & Pickle Cake (pictured above) a recipe from Sechler's Fine Pickles in St. Joe Indiana.

This morning I returned to the TurkProj. I had meal 10.0 - Yum Stuffed Pepper (Orange #2) Omelette (cf. m9.0, 12/17/2006). A YSP placed in the center of a omelette style egg (with parmesean cheese) and topped with a little circle "egg hat". Served with toast, coffee, and OJ.

8:39 AM >> TurkProj2ko6 > Update B.1

This morning was particularily exciting. It was my first breakfast with the turkey for meal #7. I picked the method of omelette in a bag. The technique is to crack 2 eggs in a quart size ziploc bag, toss in all of your ingredients, get all the air out of the bag, seal, and let it boil for 13 minutes. Then you remove the bag from the boiling pot and slide the omelette out of the bag. All the ingredients are encapsulated within and the egg is perfectly cooked.

9:50 PM >> TurkProj2ko6 > Update A.1

I am now 5 meals into my bird. I have had a great deal of meal variety and creativity thus far. The tastes of everything has beenm amazing. Now I am about to run out of the guacamole which has been an accompanying side dish pretty much for every meal so things are about to change I think. It's been a fun run so far. And I'll take a guess that I've only eaten 20-30% of all of the turkey meat that I have. So there's a long way to go.

Here is a collage of meals 1 through 5 followed by descriptions of each >>

m1.0 - For pre-meal dessert a slice of Mint Ginger Raspberry, Wild Blueberry, and Strawberry pie. Steamed corn, broccoli, and cauliflower.
Turkey leg and breast meat and little bites here and there from the platter.

m2.0 - A guacamole toasted turkey sandie with dark meat, provolone, tomato slices, parsley and pepper, and a smear of quac. Served with steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots - a little parsley and pepper and salt too. Followed up with a slice of pie.

m3.0 - An ear of corn boiled with parsley and ground pepper. 2 saltine crackers with homemade quacamole. A turkey (white with a little dark), roasted red pepper and onion, a small application of parmesean, parsley and pepper, and quacamole panini thing on wheat bread. And an after dinner slice of pie.

m4.0 - Baked Buttermilk Turkey Fingers: Pre-dinner strawberries with vanilla yogurt. Parsley and pepper corn. Some tomatoes and carrots. Soda crackers and quacamole. Turkey fingers marinated in butter, milk, black pepper, cayenne pepper, some lemon, and Texas Pete hot sauce. Then breaded with Vigo bread crumbs, corn meal, pepper and cayenne pepper, some salt and some pepper.

m5.0 - Yum Stuffed Pepper (Red): Roasted red pepper stuffed with turkey which was heated up on the stove with sauteed onion, fresh pressed garlic, salt, pepper, parsley, a little bit of beet juice, lemon squirt, chopped tomato, and a little tomato paste, and also a little bit of some fancy-style shredded white cheese. Served with cracked wheat crackers and guac. And finished off with a slice of pie.

On this December 10th I embarked on a personal test. I roasted and carved my first turkey. The turkey was between 10 and 12 pounds I think. And it was pre-smoked.

NOTE: IN A PERSONALLY CONDUCTED RECENT SURVEY OF 4 PEOPLE FROM PRETTY MUCH MY DEMOGRAPHIC 4 OF 4 HAD NEVER ROASTED THEIR OWN TURKEY. NONE WERE A HELP IN GIVING ME ADVICE ON THAWING OUT THE TURKEY TRICKS. I HAD ONLY 1 DAY TO THAW THE SUCKER.

The only prep that I did was to stuff a lemon into its cavity. During the roasting I basted the turkey with its own juices and a little salt and pepper here and there. I will be logging every menu item that contains any of the roasted turkey. So far there are two (m1.0 and m2.0).

Tonight I divy-ed up the platter into two groups. Those to go to the fridge and those to the frezzer. Each baggie was sealed and marked for its intended purpose (see pic below).

9:11 PM >> Office view and paint splatter

MY NEW OFFICE DIGS
This here is my new view. I just can't believe it. This promotion is amazing and the view is so worth the extra hours I've had to put in this week. I can't tell you how cool the floor to ceiling window is. When I get stumped on coming up with brilliance or when I just get bored of typing and filing I swivel around and it is instant rejuvenation. This city is so beautiful too. The people are really nice. There's this really great little lunch counter that I've been to three times this week already. They make the best Reuben sandwich there. Did you know that Arby's now has a Reuben. You can even get it in wrap form if you'd like. And you've just got to check out their website with the sound on. It makes these cool little typing noises when you scroll over things. They sound just like a real old-fashioned typewriter. I mean it's just like the real thing. Gee whiz.

THE SPLATTER OF PAINT ON A CARDBOARD MOVING BOX
This here is a splatter of paint that I discovered on one of my moving boxes when I moved into my new office. And to be honest I just can't remember ever splattering paint on it. It just appeared there. It looks glorious. I don't think the moving company did it because they weren't painting on the truck. I don't think it happened when I was talking with the new secretary because she was busy answering incoming calls and directing the Office Max guy where the supply room was. You just wouldn't believe it. On just a normal Monday they get in a whole pallet of office supplies. And this wasn't a special week or anything. They get that much supplies weekly. I am so going to love this place. The supply closet is enormous. Really big. Wow.

12:00 AM >> Guac-Off Trophy

Hey, Guy! If you are like so many out there who love guacamole and avacados you've probably been following the developments in the Dunn Family 2006 Holiday Guac-Off. And you prolly already know the Ken, the father, was the winner this year.

But have you see the trophy that The US Avacado and Guacamole Commission sent to him to honor his title. I bet not. It's pictured below along with a scan of the letter that they sent.

Letter from the US Avacado and Guacamole Commission:

In addition, here's the hateful email that Mr. Dunn sent off to his sons rubbing in the fact that he took the Guac. In my opinion not a deserving attitude of a guac-off winner. We're typical a humble bunch. But you'll get your's Mr. Dunn.

Letter to sons (verbatim)>> "Hi Guys - Take a look at this Guac Off Trophy and Letter. This will be a "traveling trophy" for the annual cook-off at "Thanksgiving". Better luck next year guys."
