10:34 PM >> Cactus farm

I've rescued 6 cacti from some abandoned apartments. They have been lovingly repotted and placed in the light. All but one of them was repotted in a tiny to medium terra cota-ish planter. The one odd-ball was placed in the lid of a 50-pack black CD spindle. So far they all seem to be doing well with the move. I am very happy to add them to my family of plants. They are well cared for.

In other news here are some of the resemblances that people have given me regarding my new mustached facial hair: 1) Earl from My name is Earl, 2) confederate soldier/general, 3) Buffalo Bill, 4) Tom Hanks, circa Forest Gump (the running scene), 5) child molester (non-specific), 6) porn star (1970s).

1:23 PM >> Shattered windsheild

Beauty shot of a car windsheild that I assisted in shattering for a car wreck scene in a movie I'm working on. Beauty artsiness was created using creative white balancing, shutter speed adjustment, and that kind of business.

10:20 PM >> Crazy Ingredient Turkey Loaf

Here's how it went down >>
1) I chopped and sauteed celery stalks/leaves and onion in an iron skillet that I got for christmas with basil infused olive oil and a little butter.
2) Meanwhile I cut a turkey polish kielbasa into large chunks, which I combined in a blender with about 4 ice cubes, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, pepper, and a couple spoonfuls of vanilla flavored yogurt.
3) I then mixed all that together and added in an egg, some chopped garlic, some more pepper, some chopped roasted jalepeno pepper, some cereal crumb mixture that I made a few weeks ago that had spices and stuff and corn meal in it, some American mustard, and a little Worecester sauce.
4) Using a Tupperware container I fashioned a loaf. Then somehow I transferred all this back to the iron skillet which was sprinkled with basil and pepper.
5) Let's not forget the leftover Ricotta cheese that I mixed in with the whole thing too.
6) I let the whole thing bake in the oven for about 1 hour and 20 minutes at 325 degrees.
7) I took it out and remembered that meatloaf usually has ketchup added on top at the end. So I added some Tobasco Ketchup to the top for an additional-ish ten minutes.
8) I let it sit and then I ate it.
9) It was awesome.

11:10 PM >> A shave

I have a new look. And no this wasn't photo shopped. This is the real thing. I am currently working on an independent film and it was noticed that a large majority of the crew had beards. In celebration of our beards we decided to come back to work after a day off with new facial hair. Each was given creative freedom with the only stipulation being that it could not be a traditional beard.

My look was inspired partially but not really by Colonel Harland Sanders. I forgot how much I loved the smell of shaving cream. That's seems the only real drawback to having a beard -- missing out on that wonderful smell.

4:32 PM >> Instrument of destruction

This is an instrument of destruction that I created. The ingredients are 1 part candlestick holder (pictured below), 6 parts assorted kitchen knives, and a generous application of duct tape.

Ok, does a mace maker have transferable skills into the guitar making world?

Knives & Guitars

Well, I guess so.

10:46 PM >> Ed's Two Olive Martini

This is my new favorite spirit beverage. It's the two olive martini. I don't know a lot about martinis so I may be off in actually naming this a martini. Here's what I do. I get a travel coffee mug with a lid. Inside of it I put about 4 to 5 pieces of ice. Sometimes 6. Then I pour in vodka. I shake it up and swirl it around. This accomplishes the chilled vodka effect, I quess. Meanwhile in a short glass I place two olives using a spoon. I also spoon in about 1.5 spoonfulls of olive juice. On top of that I pour the chilled mixture. If I am not going to be drinking it immediately I'll put the beverage in the fridge for a few minutes to keep it cool. If I am going to be immediately taking part I do so. Then when it's all over I eat the olives. According to the jar a serving of olives (4 olives, including pimentos) is 25 calories.

NOTE: Pictured is just a one olive martini. The formula and mixing process has been altered since this photograph. I could rename the drink Ed's olive martini #2. But that is pending a consumer research servey.

1:22 AM >> Best stocking stuffer

I love Maple Nut Goodies. And a package of them made it into my stocking this year. This was my favorite gift. It was a stocking stuffer (SSS) but it topped the list.

According to my dad MNGs were his favorite candies when he was 5 to 6 years old.

Ah, Taco Bell, you got me. You left the Ranchero Chicken Soft Taco on your menu so long I forgot what it was and bought one tonight.

9:57 PM >> 2 with leftover holiday ham

HAM AND BARLEY STIR-FRY
Leftover holiday ham skillet fried with chopped shallot, celery, carrots, green peppers, and mushrooms. Some butter. Some olive oil. Served atop cooked barley and a squirt of horseraddish mustard.

HAM AND BEANS
This is a family staple that is served traditionally with cornbread (my Dad puts a little syrup on his cornbread before eating). Leftover holiday ham, including the huge fatty chunks, thrown into the crock with the beans (1.5 can great northern, 1 can pinto) and onions and celery and a little ginger and a little shallot. S&P to taste. The liquid from the bean cans and 0.5 can of water. Then during the cooking process I siphoned out about 1.25 cups of liquid. I also removed the bigger chunks of ham about 45min before eating and trimmed off most of the fat. Served with jalapeno black pepper brown sugar cornbread made with cornbread muffin mix.

The trimmed fat with some other trash I was throwing away.

The jalapeno cornbread.
